si e’ tenuto un evento ospitato dal “CLIA” (Cruise Lines International Association) dove reporters, giornalisti e partecipanti vari tra i quali sostenitori vari, potevano parlare non solo con il CEO di tale associazione ma anche con il personale addetto alle pubbliche relazioni e con i Presidenti di alcune delle Compagnie piu’ importanti. Erano presenti, tra l’altro, Compagnie come la Crystal Cruises, la NCL, la Carnival, la Cunard, l’Holland America, l’Oceania Cruises e la Waterways AMA. Durante la visita ho incontrato Tim Rubacky dell’Oceania Cruises, Jerrol Golden di Holland American Line, Peter Shanks di Cunard Line, nonche’ il signor Rick Sasso di MSC Crociere America. Nel corso dell’incontro siamo saliti a bordo della “Zephyr” nave della Circle Lines per partecipare alla cerimonia di apertura in collaborazione con Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc. e Circle Lines Downtown.
Abbiamo avuto il piacere di godere di una navigazione, alla quale sono stati invitati tutti i partecipanti, i delegati e il personale di Intercruises, navigazione sviluppata dal Pier 88 di Manhattan al Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.
Insieme a noi, c’erano anche Mark Robinson, responsabile per Intercruises per i servizi di Shoreside & Port e Tommaso Spina, Direttore delle Operazioni crocieristiche (NYCruise), che hanno dato l’accoglienza a tutti gli invitati al Symposio. Appena ci siamo disormeggiati dal Pier 88 davanti a noi abbiamo goduto di uno spettacolo maestoso, lo stesso spettacolo a cui milioni di viaggiatori del mare assistono partendo da New York per raggiungere terre lontane, il che’ ci ricorda l’epoca d’oro delle navi da crociera. Navigando lungo le rive dell’Hudson con una velocita’ di 15-21 nodi, siamo passati davanti all’Intrepid Pier di Circle Line e al molo che fu in uso alla United States Line, ora utilizzato dalla NYPD. L’invariato aspetto risalente agli Anni ’40, mi ha fatto ripensare alla SS United States ormeggiata a Philadelphia a Penns Landing in attesa di un nuovo futuro prossimo. Durante la navigazione abbiamo notato molti punti di riferimento.
Il bel tempo ricordo, quel giorno, era un regalo clemente e tante piccole imbarcazioni, durante la nostra navigazione, sfilavano con grazia navigando lungo il fiume Hudson. Sono andato giù al ponte inferiore per prendere un drink e fare qualche fotografia e, successivamente, mi sono imbattuto in Peter Shanks che ho incontrato sul ponte esterno mentre, seduto, ammirava lo splendido skyline di New York. Siamo poi passati davanti al Financial World Center e abbiamo potuto vedere il World Trade Center nella sua attuale composizione e il North Cove Marina. Mentre stavamo avvicinandoci al Terminal Passeggeri di Brooklyn, Tom Spina e Mark Robinson, hanno dato il benvenuto a tutti noi tramite interfono e, di conseguenza, ci siamo tutti riuniti sul ponte più alto non solo per ascoltare l’annuncio ma anche per assistere alle operazioni di ormeggio al Terminal di Brooklyn. Una volta arrivati gli ospiti sono stati accolti con gioia e la musica jazz ha sonoramente riempito il Terminal e la band dal vivo ha fatto furori. Gli ospiti hanno potuto scegliere e provare anche alcuni prodotti locali tra i quali i genuini Brooklyn lager dal Brooklyn Brewery, la Republic Vodka e altri prodotti e articoli di specialità provenienti da Brooklyn. L’atmosfera era piena di entusiasmo e di gioia oltretutto gli ospiti hanno avuto modo di godere di un assaggio della cultura e della cucina di Brooklyn così come di vedere da vicino i famosi Terminals delle navi passeggeri. Come sa chi conosce gia’ il Terminal di Brooklyn, esso fu inaugurato nel 2006 con la Queen Mary 2, ed e’ conosciuto anche per essere scalo di navi come Caribbean Princess. Durante i festeggiamenti presso il Terminal di Brooklyn, Marty Markowitz, Presidente di Brooklyn Borough e Steve Nielsen, VicePresidente per le Operazioni a terra nell’area “Caraibi / Regione Atlantica ” per conto di Princess Cruise Lines, hanno salutato i partecipanti prima di dedicarsi ad una attenta visita delle strutture del Terminal che oggi serve molte Compagnie ed e’ partenza per una varietà di destinazioni. Anche Pietro Shanks e’ salito sul palco per dire qualche parola e salutare tutti i presenti. Dopo la conclusione dei festeggiamenti tenutisi al Terminal di Brooklyn, gli ospiti sono risaliti a bordo dello Zephyr per raggiungere Battery Park e cenare presso il ristorante Battery Garden, luogo in cui si e’ tenuto l’evento principale della serata, il Lobsterfest. Durante le fasi del trasferimento abbiamo assistito ad un tramonto sul porto che ha messo in luce il moderno e mutevole skyline di New York e abbiamo potuto vedere come il nascente World Trade Center 1 stia prendendo forma. Il fascino antico degli Anni Trenta e degli Anni Cinquanta rivive nel momento in cui, al tramonto con le nuvole e la nebbia che a poco a poco copriva la citta’, siamo passati davanti alla Statua della Libertà e al che’ gli ospiti si sono tutti allineati prendendo posto sui ponti esterni per scattare foto e posando di fronte a Lady Liberty. Dopo esserci fermati davanti alla Statua della Liberta’, e, quindi effettuato un’accostata di 30 gradi, abbiamo proceduto a tutta velocità verso Battery Park. Una volta ormeggiati, gli ospiti sono andati al ristorante Battery Garden dove si e’ tenuta una vera e propria festa della Lobster made in New England. L’intrattenimento serale è stato curato dalla Band di Don Campbell, un autentico gruppo country rock americano del Maine, ragazzi, che dire, hanno fatto tremare lo stabile! Musica e canzoni a go-go per tutta la sera! La cena a base di aragosta è stata servita con dell’originale Clam Chowder del New England e con patate arrosto, per dessert e’ stato servito il New York Cheese Cake. Il cibo era squisito fatto sapientemente con tanto amore. Il tutto si è tenuto accompagnato da musica e balli grazie alla band di Campbell che ha suonato fino a notte fonda sfornando brani come “The ring of fire”. La notte, giunta al termine, ha lasciato il pensiero al giorno successivo che si preannunciava ancora piu’ sfavillante di questo che e’ stato il primo giorno di Symposio. Secondo giorno: Pranzo e visita a bordo di Carnival Miracle oltre ad una serie di eventi. Sono arrivato al Pier 88 alle ore 10:30 quando sono corso verso il Pier 90 dove la Carnival Miracle ha, in realta’, ormeggiato. Come sono salito a bordo con gli altri ospiti, sono rimasto stupefatto e intimorito dagli interni e dalla sfarzosa architettura firmata Joe Farcus. L’atrio principale e lo stile sembravano simile agli interni di Costa Atlantica che ho visitato nel mese di ottobre dello scorso anno. In questa visita, sono stato accompagnato dal mio collega giornalista Mr. Navin Das. Gli ospiti e i partecipanti si sono diretti verso la sala da pranzo Bacco (dal nome del dio greco del vino) dove il pranzo sarebbe stato servito. L’evento è stato sponsorizzato dal porto di Halifax, Nova Scotia. Durante l’evento abbiamo ascoltato gli annunci del Comandante della nave, Rocco Lubrano, di Thomas M. Dow, Vice Presidente per i Pubblici affari di Carniva, Settore Nord America LLC e di Tom Spina di NYCruise. La più grande novità annunciata dal Com.te Lubrano e’ che Carnival Miracle partira’ da New York tutto l’anno a partire gia’ dal mese di aprile 2012, una novita’ assoluta per la Compagnia.
La nave da 2124 pax avrà come homeport proprio New York e sara’ impegnata su crociere da otto giorni verso i Caraibi e le Bahamas. Da aprile a ottobre 2012, la nave, classe Spirit, fara’ crociere da New York a San Juan, St. Thomas e Grand Turk, alternando con un itinerario verso le Bahamas che fara’ tappa, tra l’altro, anche all’isola di Half Moon Cay (gestita dalla sorella Holland America), a Grand Turk e a Nassau. La cena è stata fenomenale. Dopo la cena il Comandante Lubrano ha scambiato qualche parola con noi e si e’ complimentato con le Autorita’ per il risultato conseguito da New York come homeport di Miracle. Abbiamo quindi iniziato un breve tour nelle aree pubbliche principali della nave e visitato i ponti superiori, poco tempo però avendo a disposizione solo un’ora in quanto la nave era in partenza per una crociera di 8 gg verso i Caraibi Orientali. Dopo il tour di un’ora abbiamo lasciato la nave e l’abbiamo accompagnata con lo sguardo ammirandola mentre si allontanava dal Pier 90, con eleganza e coadiuvata da un rimorchiatore. Più tardi, durante la sera, siamo andati all’Eventi Hotel.

Cruise Canada New England 2011 Symposium docks in New York City PT 1
June 14-16 was a very historical moment in history for the North East cruise industry & the as New York City hosted the Cruise Canada New England 2011 Symposium.
Over 13 years have passed since New York has hosted a Symposium , the events return to New York symbolizes New York’s status as the capital home port of the North East.
Hosted at Pier 88 , it was a stunning sight as I walked up the terminal to the the NY cruise banner inside the newly renovated Pier 88.
Day 1 consisted of an event hosted by CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association )

Later in the day we boarded Circle Lines capital ship the Zephyr for the grand opening ceremony.

The trip consisted of all the attendees , delegates and Intercruises staff setting Sail from Pier 88 in Manhattan to Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, with Mark Robinson, Managing Director Intercruises Shoreside & Port Services, and Thomas Spina, Director of Cruise Operations, NYCruise, welcoming everyone to Cruise Canada New England 2011 Symposium.
As we cast off from Pier 88 it was a majestic sight , a sight seen by millions of sea travelers as they sailed from New York to distant lands , reminiscent of the golden age of Ocean Liners .
We sailed down the Hudson , as we were sailing at 15-21 knots cruising speed, we passed the Intrepid , Circle Line Pier and the forgotten bit still active United States Lines Pier now used by the NYPD.
The Facade Unchanged since the 40s , made me think of the S.S United States docked in Philly at Penns Landing awaiting a new future.
During the voyage we passed many landmarks , the beautiful weather holding off the imminent rain shower and many small craft tailing us as we gracefully sailed down the Hudson river to our destination on calm seas.
I went down to the lower decks to grab a drink & a few photographs then I stumbled upon Peter Shanks on the promenade deck , looking at the stunning New York skyline as he sat in joy.
We then passed by the World Financial center were we could see World Trade center one rising from the site & the newly developed lower Manhattan with North Cove Marina.
As we were nearing the Brooklyn Passenger ship terminal ,

Everyone Gathered on the top deck to hear the announcement as we were docking at the Brooklyn Terminal.
After the announcement we docked at the Brooklyn Cruise terminal where guest were greeted with joy as Jazz music filled the terminal as the LIVE band was rocking the stage. The guests had an array of products to try out from the various vendors , Including genuine Brooklyn lager from the Brooklyn Brewery , Republic Vodka & other fine Brooklyn products and specialty items.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement and joy as the guests got to see a taste of Brooklyn culture and cuisine as well as see the marvelous passenger ship terminal.
As you cruisers already know the Brooklyn Terminal first opened in 2006 with the Queen Mary 2 as it’s landmark visitor along with the Caribbean Princess.

During the final stretch of the cruise as we cruised in the harbor as the sun set over the Modern & ever changing New York skyline , we could see the rising World Trade Center 1 taking shape.
The mood reminiscent of the 1930s & 50s as the sun set over the harbor and the clouds & fog covered the city as we passed the Statue of Liberty briefly , as guests lined the decks to take photos and pose in front of Lady Liberty.
It was starting to Drizzle as we stopped near The Statue of Liberty.
We then turned 30 degrees and proceeded full speed to Battery park.
Once we docked , guests proceeded to the Battery Gardens restaurant for a genuine New England Lobster feast.
The evening entertainment was delivered by the Don Campbell Band, an authentic American Rock & Country group from Maine , boy did they rock the house!

The Lobster cuisine was served with genuine New England Clam Chowder , roasted potatoes and dessert was fine New York Cheese Cake.
The food was delicious , made with such love and craft.
The night lasted til the we hours as the Don Campbell band continued to churn out tunes and popular cover songs like ” The Ring of Fire.”
The night had officially ended as day one of the Symposium came to a close , tomorrows celebrations would be even more marvelous.

I arrived at Pier 88 at 10:30 am est to pick up my boarding pass , I then zipped down to Pier 90 where the Miracle was docked.
As I boarded the Miracle with all the guests on the main deck , I was awed at the interiors and the glitzy signature Joe Farcus architecture.
The Main atrium and the style of the room looked similar to the interiors of the Costa Atlantica I visited in October of last year.
On this visit , I was accompanied by my fellow reporter Mr. Navin Das .

During the event we had announcements from Captain Rocco Lubrano of the Miracle , Thomas M. Dow , Vice President of Public affairs at Carnival North America LLC & Tom Spina of NY Cruise.
The biggest news announced by Captain Lubrano was that the Carnival Miracle will be sailing from the New York on a year-round basis beginning in April 2012, a first for the line.
The 2,124-passenger Carnival Miracle will be homeported in New York doing eight-day cruises to the Caribbean and Bahamas.

After the Luncheon was finished we meet the Captain of the Miracle Rocco Lubrano & shared a few words on everything and congratulated him on the news of the Miracle being homported in New York.
We then embarked on a short tour of the Miracle’s main public spaces and her upper decks , we only had one hour due to our limited time aboard before she set sail on her 8 night Eastern Caribbean cruise.
After the one hour tour aboard we departed the Miracle to the Intrepid Pier to watch her depart from Pier 90 , in style with a signature tug boat escort.
Later in the evening , we arrived at the Eventi Hotel.
