ANCHORAGE, Alaska, May 14, 2025 – Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL), a global leader in the vacation industry, proudly announces its continued support for various Alaska organizations, including a $50,000 donation to the Sitka Sound Science Center. Funding will go to the nonprofit’s Scientists in the Schools (SIS) program for the 2025 sailing season and underscore’s Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to fostering educational opportunities, nurturing a passion for science and nature among Sitka’s youth, and supporting Alaska’s culture, wildlife, and development.

SIS has been a long-standing effort, aimed at creating meaningful educational experiences by incorporating classroom visits from scientists into the curriculum at each grade level in Sitka schools. This approach builds a pipeline of scientific experiences throughout the academic career of Sitka’s K-12 students including creating connections with aquarist, hatchery staff, local botanist, harvesters and naturalist. Last year, the program benefited 1,022 students from nine schools and created more than 5,000 student connections with scientists thanks to the support from Royal Caribbean Group.

This year, Sitka Sound Science Center has launched Sitka Adventures Supporting Youth (SASY), an outdoor education program offering comprehensive learning experiences to youth that will equip participants with the essential skills, knowledge, and confidence to engage in outdoor recreation safely and comfortably. Through Royal Caribbean Group’s partnership, the graduating class will cap off the program with a day on deck adventure aboard a ship, learning about day-to-day operations, career opportunities, and testing out the ship’s fun interactive features—from skydiving and bumper cars—to learning about ship navigation tools in Alaskan waters.

“We are thrilled to continue our meaningful relationship with the Sitka Sound Science Center, underpinning our commitment to education in the state of Alaska,” said Helen O’Connell, Associate Vice President, Community Engagement, Royal Caribbean Group. “We hope that through our donation, the next generation of researchers and environmental stewards will be inspired to continue their science education and career journeys.”

Commitment to Alaska’s Culture, Wildlife, and Development

Royal Caribbean Group’s SEA the Future commitment to sustain the planet, energize communities, and accelerate innovation is brought to life through various initiatives and events, in Alaska including:

  • Ketchikan Salmon Walk: In partnership with the Tongass Historical Museum, the Salmon Walk offers guests an opportunity to learn about salmon migration and their lifecycle in Ketchikan Creek. The nearly two-mile, self-guided walk winds through the town, engaging guests with placards featuring art by renowned local artists like Ray Troll, Nathan Jackson, and Marvin Oliver.
  • Locally Sourced Products: The Group procures local products for guests to enjoy onboard, including seafood from Seafood Producers Cooperative and Alaska Specialty Seafood, spirits from Skagway Spirits, and more.
  • Locals Onboard: The Group’s partnership with Skagway-based Voyij.com, the online marketplace where more than 250 Alaska small businesses, retailers, and artists sell their crafts, has driven more than $1 million in sales over the past three cruising seasons. Additionally, Royal Caribbean International’s “Locals Onboard” entertainment program with Voyij.com brings authentic and immersive experiences onto the brand’s ships.
  • Support for Sitka’s Hiking Trail System: Royal Caribbean Group continues to support Sitka Trail Works contributing to the upkeep of Sitka’s extensive hiking trail system, including materials, equipment, signage, and resting areas; these trails also serve as emergency access roads and are managed by Sitka Trail Works, the US Forest Service, and the City & Borough of Sitka.
