Art on the Mein Schiff 7
Art highlights on the new feel-good ship
Hamburg, May 14, 2024. The Hamburg cruise line’s seventh feel-good ship, the Mein Schiff 7, is currently being built in Turku, Finland. In mid-May, six weeks before commissioning, TUI Cruises will announce new highlights that will catch the eye of guests.
In the Große Freiheit on Mein Schiff 7, guests can not only visit the exclusive restaurants and the newly designed champagne meeting place, but also view a spectacular work of art by the art studio Sino Sculpture. With a height of three meters and a width of two meters, this is one of the largest works of art that Mein Schiff has ever installed as a single item on the feel-good fleet. It requires logistical skills and good nerves to bring the work of art on board. Once it arrived at the shipyard, it had to be craned onto deck 5, then carried with a lot of manpower across the outer deck and a previously defined path into the interior of the ship within a few hours, as the ongoing work would no longer have allowed it to fit through the opening provided. The installation of the object also required precise logistics, so the so-called installation points had to be adapted exactly to the points prepared by the area outfitter. The result: an impressive work of art that, thanks to a thin mesh metal material, appears very delicate and attracts everyone’s attention. The design was aimed at the exclusive Italian restaurant La Spezia.
“The two objects in the Große Freiheit are the most complex and elaborate work of art that we installed at the stern in the Große Freiheit of the Mein Schiff 7,” says Christer Jäger, Art & Signage Manager at TUI Cruises. “I am incredibly relieved that everything went so smoothly from planning to installation.”
In addition to the Große Freiheit, guests can also admire a three-story work of art in the atrium of Mein Schiff 7, which is currently being erected with an eight-meter-high scaffolding . Two artists from the art studio Aptum Lighting are on site to install and assemble the work of art.In addition, for the first time on the Mein Schiff 7, the suite sun deck will be painted instead of foiled. The artist Artur Sala, who is working for the Mein Schiff fleet for the first time, and his painting team of eight people conjure up exciting works on the wall. The covered pool is also embellished with a beautiful, large mosaic. Other art objects that guests can admire on Mein Schiff 7 are available via ArtLink.
