Ginevra – 6 agosto 2026 – Il Gruppo MSC ha presentato oggi Catalina Sugar Beach, il nuovo nome della destinazione balneare situata sull’isola di Catalina, al largo di La Romana, nella Repubblica Dominicana, svelando al contempo nuovi dettagli del progetto di rinnovamento che ne ridefinirà l’esperienza a partire dalla prossima apertura. Gestita in collaborazione con CTL Maritime e Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, l’area è interessata da un ampio progetto di riqualificazione, pensato per farne una destinazione balneare d’eccellenza nei Caraibi. L’apertura è prevista per novembre 2026.
Potranno accedervi sia gli ospiti delle navi da crociera, incluse quelle di MSC Crociere ed Explora Journeys, sia gli ospiti di Casa de Campo Resort & Villas. A partire da novembre, MSC Crociere inaugurerà partenze settimanali dal nuovo porto di imbarco di La Romana: MSC Opera farà scalo a Catalina Sugar Beach in ogni itinerario.
Pensato per valorizzare l’autenticità e il patrimonio naturalistico dell’isola, riconosciuta come monumento naturale protetto della Repubblica Dominicana, il progetto offre un’esperienza che si integra armoniosamente con il paesaggio. Tra spiagge di sabbia bianca e acque cristalline, gli ospiti potranno concedersi una giornata di puro relax, arricchita da nuovi servizi e attività di livello superiore. Il programma di escursioni offrirà numerosi modi per scoprire l’isola e i suoi dintorni: una navigazione in catamarano, attività di snorkeling tra fondali ricchi di vita marina, escursioni in barca all’isola di Saona e visite alla vicina Grotta delle Meraviglie o ad Altos de Chavón. Chi preferirà godersi la giornata a Catalina Sugar Beach potrà rendere l’esperienza ancora più esclusiva prenotando una delle nuove cabanas.
Tra le principali novità previste a Catalina Sugar Beach:
- Ristorazione – Il cuore dell’offerta gastronomica sarà un padiglione all’aperto affacciato sulla spiaggia, con servizio a buffet, piatti internazionali e specialità locali. Accanto, un’area ombreggiata con tavoli all’aperto offrirà una vista panoramica sul mare.
- Bar – Saranno disponibili due bar, tra cui un palapa bar tropicale all’aperto, dove gli ospiti potranno rilassarsi all’ombra con una bevanda e ammirare il mare.
- Centro per gli sport acquatici – Sarà il punto di partenza per esplorare le acque cristalline che circondano l’isola, con attrezzature disponibili a noleggio.
- Cabanas – Lettini e cabanas potranno essere noleggiati per trascorrere la giornata a Catalina Sugar Beach in totale comfort.
- Servizi rinnovati – Spogliatoi, docce e servizi igienici saranno completamente ammodernati, con ambienti più confortevoli e curati.
- Un sentiero panoramico – Un nuovo percorso attraverserà la rigogliosa vegetazione dell’isola fino a un suggestivo punto panoramico. Lungo il cammino, pannelli informativi racconteranno le diverse specie arboree, mentre alcune radure rialzate offriranno scorci sulla spiaggia e sul paesaggio circostante.
Da novembre 2026 MSC Crociere partirà da La Romana con scalo a Catalina Sugar Beach, introducendo per la prima volta un’offerta di crociere attiva tutto l’anno nei Caraibi meridionali. MSC Opera proporrà itinerari settimanali di sette notti, combinabili in una crociera back-to-back di 14 notti.

GENEVA – August 6, 2026 – More details were revealed today of Catalina Sugar Beach, the new name of the beach destination on Catalina Island, just off the coast of La Romana, Dominican Republic.
Operated in partnership with CTL Maritime and Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, the destination is receiving significant enhancements to create a premier leisure destination in the Caribbean, set to open in November 2026.
The destination can be enjoyed by cruise ship guests, including those sailings with MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, as well as guests staying at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas. MSC Cruises commences weekly sailings from its new La Romana homeport in November, with MSC Opera calling at the new Sugar Beach destination on every itinerary.
The destination will offer an experience that showcases the island’s natural character and beauty as a protected natural monument in the Dominican Republic. Guests can expect to surrender to some of the finest while-sand beaches and crystal blue waters in the region, alongside new experiences and elevated amenities to make it the ultimate beach escape.
Shore excursions will offer the opportunity to get even closer to nature and include a relaxing catamaran exploration of the surrounding waters, snorkeling to see the flourishing marine life the island is famous for, boat trips to Isla Saona Island or visits to the nearby Cave of Wonders and Altos de Chavón. Guests wishing to stay and enjoy Catalina Sugar Beach’s beautiful surroundings can opt to elevate their experience with one of the new cabanas on offer.

- Upgraded Facilities – Functional facilities across the island will be upgraded, with comfortable, stylish changing, shower and WC services.
- A picturesque pathway – wind through the island’s lush natural landscape to a dramatic viewpoint, with educational signage along the route inviting guests to discover and learn more about the island’s diverse tree species. Along the pathway, elevated clearings within the vegetation will offer scenic views overlooking the beach and surrounding island landscape.
MSC Cruises will begin sailing from La Romana with stops at Catalina Sugar Beach in November, marking the first time the cruise line has offered year-round sailings in the Southern Caribbean. MSC Opera will operate weekly departures with seven-night sailings or the option for guests to extend their cruise for a back-to-back 14-night ‘butterfly’ cruise.
