Start of a new era: Mein Schiff Relax handed over to TUI Cruises
First new build of the InTUItion ship class leaves the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone
Hamburg/Monfalcone, February 7, 2025. Today the Mein Schiff Relax, the first new build of the InTUItion ship class, was officially handed over to TUI Cruises at the Italian Fincantieri shipyard. Representatives of both companies, including Wybcke Meier and Frank Kuhlmann, CEO and CFO of TUI Cruises, as well as Cristiano Bazzara, Director of Fincantieri, took part in the formal handover . The Italian Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, was also present and was welcomed by Biagio Mazzotta and Pierroberto Folgiero, Chairman and Managing Director of Fincantieri respectively, as well as Luigi Matarazzo, General Director of the Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division.
“It is a very special moment for us to take delivery of the first ship of the new, innovative InTUItion ship class,” says Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises. ” Eleven years ago we took delivery of our first newly built ship. With the Mein Schiff Relax we are now opening a whole new chapter in the field of premium cruises. We would like to thank the shipyard and everyone involved for working with our teams to create this ship, which takes “experience well-being anew” to a new level.”
The Mein Schiff Relax offers regular guests and cruise enthusiasts an even more varied culinary journey through particularly high-quality worlds of enjoyment. There are new and even more options available to retreat to architecturally spectacular oases of well-being to relax. When it comes to cabins and suites, Mein Schiff caters even more to the needs of cruise travelers, creating a very special holiday feeling: for example, for the first time there are inside, outside and balcony cabins for solo travelers on the Mein Schiff Relax. In addition to the numerous innovations, the suites and the area for suite guests on the Mein Schiff Relax have also found a new place: at the stern of the new feel-good ship. In addition to a large number of junior suites, beautiful views and wanderlust suites, there will be far-sightedness suites and, for the first time, two great freedom suites, which extend over two decks and have a large terrace . Spa and wellness are also being redefined. Guests can enjoy perfect relaxation with fantastic views in the new, exclusive barrel sauna on deck 19. And brand new: an exclusive cold chamber for cryotherapy treatments, which with temperatures of up to -110 degrees support regeneration, weight loss or improvement of skin structure. High-class entertainment and adventure worlds such as the Asian restaurant Fugu with a digital atmosphere and matching dishes from the pen of Tim Raue will also find a new home on this ship, which will embark on its first anticipatory voyages in March.
Sustainable growth: First ship with gas propulsion
TUI Cruises is also focusing on environmental and climate protection with the new ship class: The Mein Schiff Relax will be equipped with dual fuel engines that can be operated with liquid gas and, in the future, also with low-emission and climate-friendly bio- and E-LNG – an important step on the way to climate-neutral cruising. In addition, it will be equipped with improved catalysts (nitrogen oxide reduction to Euro 6 standard) and a shore power connection. This ensures almost emission-free ship operation during port stays (around 40 percent of operating time).
Hydro-Treat: Efficient waste treatment
The Mein Schiff Relax is also equipped with an innovative system that uses thermal treatment to break down organic waste and prepare it for further use on land . In the so-called “HydroTreat”, the liquid parts of the biological waste are separated using heat and pressure and fed into the ship’s own wastewater treatment plant. The end result is purified wastewater that is on a par with the most modern sewage treatment plants on land. The solid parts of the waste are transformed into so-called BioChar, which is considered multi-talented in agriculture – for example, for soil improvement or as a feed additive.
