Nicosia, Cipro: Swan Hellenic ha annunciato lo svolgimento ad Amsterdam della cerimonia di nomina di SH Diana, la sua terza nave da crociera di classe glaciale.
La nuova unità, appositamente progettata, è stata battezzata Valerie Ann Wilson, icona dei viaggi di lusso. Con la fondatrice e CEO di Valerie Wilson Travel, i vertici di Swan Hellenic, personalità locali, VIP, media e membri del settore crocieristico e dei viaggi di tutto il mondo.
La sontuosa cena di gala, che è seguita a bordo, ha segnato anche il lancio ufficiale di Maris, una nuova ed entusiasmante partnership con JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs, che offre agli ospiti di Swan Hellenic un’esperienza unica di ristorazione e di scoperta attraverso i sensi, da vivere con gli chef di fama mondiale dell’organizzazione gastronomica.
Maris porta di volta in volta a bordo di una serie di esclusive crociere di spedizione culturale sulle eleganti di Swan Hellenic, chef esperti di JRE. Gli ospiti sono così accompagnati in un viaggio parallelo di scoperta, grazie all’opportunità di esplorare la celebre creatività culinaria che ha determinato la loro fama, guidata dalla passione per la tradizione, la sostenibilità e gli ingredienti locali di qualità.
Il programma Maris è stato presentato dal CEO di Swan Hellenic, Andrea Zito, con interventi del CEO di JRE Hans Van Manen e del Vicepresidente di JRE Italia Daniel Canzian.
Per l’occasione, cinque chef JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs hanno presentato la straordinaria varietà creativa della gastronomia Maris: Edwin Soumang (Ristorante One, Paesi Bassi), Daniel Canzian (Ristorante Daniel Canzian, Italia), Sabrina Schanz e Patrick von Vacano (Original Beans, Paesi Bassi) e Michael Ammon (Gasthof Jakob, Germania). Michael è rimasto a bordo dopo le celebrazioni come chef Maris nella crociera post-nomina di SH Diana.
SH Diana è la terza di una serie di tre eleganti navi da crociera per spedizioni culturali, realizzate per offrire esperienze di scoperta di alta classe in tutto il mondo, con una forte predilezione per le aree a latitudini estreme. Dotata di un sistema di propulsione diesel-elettrico da 4,6 megawatt con riduzione catalitica selettiva e di uno scafo PC6 rinforzato per il ghiaccio, SH Diana è dotata di stabilizzatori extra-large per garantire ai passeggeri un comfort eccezionale. Con una lunghezza di 125 metri, la nave, che pesa 12.100 tonnellate, è stata appositamente progettata per esplorare i luoghi più suggestivi e inaccessibili del Pianeta.
Conforme alle più recenti normative ambientali, SH Diana è completamente autosufficiente per un massimo di 40 giorni o 8.000 miglia nautiche, ed è dotata di sistemi di depurazione dei gas di scarico, di sistemi avanzati per il trattamento delle acque reflue, e di strutture di stoccaggio dei rifiuti: tutte dotazioni necessarie per operare in aree polari sensibili. Inoltre, sono state effettuate le predisposizioni per implementare la tecnologia delle batterie a emissioni zero, al fine di potere operare silenziosamente anche nei porti, nelle riserve marine e in altre aree naturali sensibili.
Con un’ampia sistemazione a 5 stelle per 192 ospiti in 96 spaziose cabine e suite, la maggior parte delle quali con ampi balconi, SH Diana è gestita da un team di bordo di 141 persone per fornire i più alti livelli di servizio personale.
Caratterizzata dallo stesso design elegante delle sue acclamate navi gemelle, con interni a pianta aperta, vista sul mare senza ostacoli e ampie aree di ponte, SH Diana vanta tuttavia alcune differenze fondamentali. Tra queste ci sono il teatro (che si affaccia sul salone), dedicato alle presentazioni e alle conferenze, e i tender boat a bordo per portare gli ospiti a terra, oltre ai consueti zodiac da spedizione. Come le altre due navi della flotta, SH Diana dispone di una palestra all’avanguardia, una spa, una sauna panoramica, ristorante e cantina super attrezzati, una sala club, e una piscina con grill a bordo.
SH Diana è partita da Amsterdam per la crociera di spedizione culturale “Norway Explored”, un’odissea di 11 giorni tra i fiordi. Destinazione Tromsø, in Norvegia, che sarà raggiunta il 14 maggio.
Il dottor Terje Leiren accompagnerà la prima crociera di spedizione culturale per tutta la durata, condividendo le sue conoscenze specialistiche, le sue intuizioni con gli ospiti a bordo. Terje è professore emerito di Storia e Studi scandinavi presso l’Università di Washington, Seattle, ed è stato il primo titolare della Sverre Arestad Endowed Chair in Norwegian Studies (2007-2017). Terje ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in storia presso la University of North Texas e ha insegnato all’Università di Oslo prima di entrare all’Università di Washington nel 1977. È stato co-editore generale della serie di libri della University of Washington Press, “New Directions in Scandinavian Studies”, ed è autore di quattro libri e oltre 40 articoli accademici sulla storia scandinava. Ha inoltre contribuito a diversi programmi televisivi di documentari trasmessi dalla PBS e da History Channel su argomenti che spaziano dai Vichinghi alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale.

Swan Hellenic è stata rilanciata nel luglio 2020 per continuare con orgoglio lo spirito delle crociere culturali di spedizione di cui la compagnia è stata pioniera negli anni Cinquanta. Tutte le navi dispongono ciascuna di 3 punti di ristoro – lo Swan Restaurant, il Club Lounge e il Pool Bar & Grill – e sono state costruite nel pieno rispetto dei requisiti SOLAS per il rientro in porto in sicurezza. The cultural expedition cruise pioneer’s third purpose-designed expedition cruise ship is now on her way to Tromsø for an 11-day cruise of fjord exploration that opens her Arctic season before she voyages worldwide
Nicosia, Cyprus: Today, Thursday the 4th of May 2023, Swan Hellenic announced that the Naming Ceremony of its third ice-class cultural expedition cruise ship, SH Diana, had taken place in Amsterdam.
The purpose-designed new vessel was named by luxury travel visionary and icon Valerie Ann Wilson, Founder and CEO of Valerie Wilson Travel, in the presence of Swan Hellenic Senior Management, local dignitaries, VIP guests, the media and members of the cruise and travel industries from around the world.
The sumptuous celebration Gala Dinner which followed on board also marked the official launch of Maris, an exciting new partnership with JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs, which offers Swan Hellenic guests a unique experience of exceptional dining and discovery through the senses, lived with the gourmet organisation’s world-famous chefs.
Maris brings a different JRE leading light aboard in a series of exclusive cultural expedition cruises on Swan Hellenic’s elegant designer ships SH Vega and SH Diana. Here, they take guests on a parallel voyage of discovery, exploring the celebrated culinary creativity that has made their name, driven by a passion for tradition, sustainability and quality local ingredients.
Maris was introduced by Swan Hellenic CEO Andrea Zito, with speeches by JRE CEO Hans Van Manen and JRE Italy Vice President Daniel Canzian.
Five JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs chefs then showcased the extraordinary creative variety of Maris gastronomy to mark the occasion: Edwin Soumang (Restaurant One, The Netherlands), Daniel Canzian (Ristorante Daniel Canzian, Italy), Sabrina Schanz and Patrick von Vacano (Original Beans, The Netherlands), and Michael Ammon (Gasthof Jakob, Germany). Michael remained on board after the celebrations as the Maris chef on SH Diana’s post-naming cruise.
SH Diana is the third in a series of three elegant, high ice-class, cultural expedition cruise vessels made for premium discovery experiences worldwide, with a strong bias for extreme latitude areas. Featuring a 4.6-megawatt diesel-electric propulsion system with selective catalytic reduction and a PC6 ice-strengthened hull, she is fitted with extra-large stabilisers for exceptional passenger comfort. At 125 m long, the 12,100-ton vessel has been specially designed to explore the most inspiring and inaccessible places on the planet.
Complying with the latest environmental regulations, SH Diana is completely self-sufficient for up to 40 days or 8,000 nautical miles, and equipped with exhaust gas cleaning, advanced wastewater treatment systems and the waste storage facilities required for operating in sensitive polar areas. Moreover, preparations have been made to implement zero-emission battery technology, which would also make it possible to operate silently in port, marine reserves and other sensitive natural areas.
Providing spacious 5-star accommodation for 192 guests in 96 spacious staterooms and suites, the vast majority with large balconies, SH Diana is operated by an onboard team of 141 to provide the highest levels of personal service.
Distinguished by the same elegant design as her acclaimed sister ships, with open-plan interiors, unobstructed sea views and extensive deck areas, SH Diana nevertheless boasts certain key differences, salient among them a dedicated presentation and lecture theatre overlooking the lounge, and on-board tender boats to take guests ashore in addition to the customary expedition zodiacs. Like her siblings, SH Diana features a state-of-the-art gym, spa, panoramic sauna, superbly equipped restaurant and cellar, club room and swimming pool with poolside grill.
SH Diana has now departed Amsterdam on the cultural expedition cruise “Norway Explored,” an 11-day odyssey through the fjords that will reach Tromsø, Norway, on the 14th of May 2022.
Dr Terje Leiren will be accompanying the maiden cultural expedition cruise throughout, sharing his expert knowledge, insights and company with the guests on board. Terje is Professor Emeritus of Scandinavian Studies and History at the University of Washington, Seattle, and was the University’s first holder of the Sverre Arestad Endowed Chair in Norwegian Studies (2007-2017). Terje gained his Ph.D. in history at the University of North Texas and taught at the University of Oslo before joining the University of Washington in 1977. He served as Co-General Editor of the University of Washington Press book series, “New Directions in Scandinavian Studies”, and is the author of four books and over 40 academic articles on Scandinavian history. He has also contributed to several television documentary programmes broadcast on PBS and the History Channel on topics ranging from the Vikings to World War II.
