Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – November 7, 2024 – MSC CruisesBright Ideas in TravelSuper Coral Program
The “Bright Ideas in Travel” list, introduced by Condé Nast Traveler in 2022, honors the most visionary projects in travel. The editorial team identifies ideas that address travel’s most pressing challenges, whether by building something entirely new, scaling solutions that make a broad impact, or reshaping how tourism is generally viewed. MSC Cruises’ inclusion reflects the company’s thoughtful, long-term approach to marine conservation through its Super Coral Program.
The MSC Foundation’s The Super Coral Program run by the MSC Foundation – MSC Group’s not-for-profit philanthropic organization – is part of the cruise line’s broader commitment to reversing coral decline and safeguarding marine ecosystems. Located within a 64-square-mile protected waters surrounding Ocean Cay, the project is pioneering research on “super corals”— thermally resilient specimens with the potential to thrive despite rising ocean temperatures. The coral nursery currently nurtures 550 live samples from five coral species and 12 genotypes, each selected for their resilience to heat stress. Scientists involved in the project believe these super corals could play a critical role in restoring coral reef resistance and ensuring the survival of reefs threatened by climate change.
This recognition comes hot on the heels of the company’s outstanding performance in the 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards. MSC Cruises ranked #3 in the Mega Ship category, 13 in the Large Ship category, and #23 in the Medium Ship category, further cementing its reputation as an industry leader ahead of the highly anticipated launch of MSC World America in April 2025.
Guests sailing on MSC World America will experience the beauty of Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve firsthand. This private island, a cornerstone of MSC Cruises’ marine conservation efforts, offers travelers the unique opportunity to visit the Marine Conservation Center and witness the progress of the Super Coral Program while enjoying a pristine destination designed with both relaxation and conservation in mind.
As MSC Cruises looks to the future, it remains committed to delivering exceptional travel experiences while implementing initiatives that help to protect the environment it touches.
