Freshening up the Mein Schiff 4 – technical and optical improvements

Hamburg, February 25, 2025.

Shortly before its 10th birthday, the Mein Schiff 4 has received a comprehensive facelift: from February 10 to 23, 2025, the feel-good ship was beautified, modernized and further optimized in terms of sustainability in the shipyard in Dubai in order to further improve the efficiency and sustainability of the ship.

Modernization of public areas for the Mein Schiff feel-good factor
During the 14-day stay in the shipyard, extensive renovations were carried out in the public areas of the ship. The aim: to give the wellness ship, which was christened in Kiel in early summer 2015, a new shine just before its 10th birthday. A total of 9,000 square meters of carpet were replaced in the stairwells, the main restaurant Atlantik, the Schaubar and in numerous other places. The flooring in the popular buffet restaurant Anckelmannsplatz was overhauled down to the last tile: 800 square meters of tiled flooring were removed by hand and re-laid.

Not only the interior areas, but also the outside decks of the wellness ship were renovated. The 25-meter pool and the jacuzzis were extensively sanded down and repainted. The sauna area now also shines in new splendor, including a modernized steam sauna.

Propeller replacement and hydrodynamic optimization  for greater sustainability
Technical improvements were also implemented during the shipyard stay. The old propellers with a diameter of 5.80 meters were replaced with new, hydrodynamically optimized models. These new propellers are made of a copper-nickel alloy and are cast in one piece, which significantly reduces water resistance. An additional attachment, the so-called rotary end cap, channels the propeller outflow and prevents braking turbulence in the water. These measures promise fuel savings of 4 to 7 percent.

Underwater hull: high-pressure cleaning and new paint High-pressure jets were also  used to remove the old layers of paint from the underwater hull of the Mein Schiff 4. With a water pressure of up to 2500 bar, the old paint was stripped down to the bare steel. Four new layers, a total of 12,960 liters of paint, were then applied. On February 24, 2025, the Mein Schiff 4 set off from Dubai on its first voyage with guests after the shipyard stay.
