Saga, the UK’s leading specialist provider of services and products tailored for people over 50, has announced the expansion of its river cruise collection with the addition of a new ship, Spirit of the Moselle, joining the fleet from July 2025.

Continuing its drive to bring exceptional experiences to guests, Saga’s latest announcement further strengthens its river cruise offering, and signals continued confidence in the demand for river cruises.

Similar to sister ships Spirit of the Rhine, which launched in 2021, and Spirit of the Danube, which was launched in 2022, Spirit of the Moselle will build on Saga’s boutique design philosophy, across rivers and ocean and will offer a luxury cruise experience for customers on Europe’s famous riverways.

Commenting on the news, Director of River Product, Sergej Tocili said: “We’ve reached another great milestone in our river cruise collection. Spirit of the Rhine and Spirit of the Danube have proven to be a great success with our guests, and I expect Spirit of Moselle will continue the same high quality river cruising while allowing us to explore a wider range of rivers”.

Carrying up to 182 guests, Spirit of the Moselle will have 95 cabins, of which 73 will have a French Balcony, and take similar design cues from her two sisters, with a focus on bright, spacious surroundings.

Featuring floor to ceiling windows, Spirit of the Moselle will be bathed in light throughout, with her lounge area and bar becoming the social hub of the ship. The panoramic restaurant will serve buffet breakfasts and waiter-served lunches and dinners, while a more intimate dining space will be located at the rear of the ship, perfect for special occasions. The ship’s sun deck will include loungers and seating – ideal for enjoying the passing scenery – and there will also be a lower sun terrace for when the sun deck is closed.

Spirit of Moselle’s inaugural season will begin from July 2025, with additional Christmas and New Year cruises planned. Cruising predominantly along the Main, highlights on her itineraries will include Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Bamberg and the UNESCO protected Rhine Gorge.

Saga Cruise CEO Nigel Blanks added: “The team and I are thrilled to see this exciting next step in our growing river cruise offering. I’m looking forward to welcoming guests onboard for the first time in 2025 to enjoy the levels of service, value and exceptional experiences our guests have come to expect from Saga”.

The official start of the ship’s construction began in January, with the traditional keel laying ceremony taking place at Vahali shipyard in Serbia. As is tradition, a penny was laid to become part of the first integral piece of the hull, providing good luck and safe passage for the ship, and all who cruise on board.
