The countdown has begun: Mein Schiff 7 will be christened in the Kiel Fjord on Saturday
Hamburg, June 19, 2024. Special moments require special dresses: On Saturday, godmother Fenia Kalachani will officially give the Mein Schiff 7 her name. As environmental officer on the Mein Schiff fleet, Fenia represents the entire crew – both on board and on land. The employees of the Hamburg shipping company have come up with something very special for this occasion: a christening dress designed especially for Fenia from their own ranks.
“I immediately had various ideas in my head and put them down on paper as sketches. In the end, Fenia was able to choose her favorite outfit from seven designs,” explains Rebecca Fiedler. “In addition to the designs, I also created a mood board to express the mood and emotions of the design piece. It should appear light and like the vastness of the sea, but also represent Fenia and her position on our ships.” As costume manager, Fiedler has been responsible for the outfits of the entertainment cast on board the Mein Schiff fleet for six years.
The result is an impressive dress that combines the environmental officer’s uniform with a light, flowing pleated dress. The blue color and the asymmetrical shape are reminiscent of the gentle waves of the sea and thus perfectly reflect the maritime theme. At the same time, the dress, with its Greek feel, refers to Fenia Kalachani’s home country.
To create the christening dress, TUI Cruises teamed up with the fleet-wide uniform manufacturer Vierke Corporate Fashion + Concepts. “It is a great honor for us to create the christening dress for the godmother of the Mein Schiff 7 together with the Mein Schiff team,” says V!ERKE Managing Director Michael Herbst. Together with Berlin designer Lana Mueller, the Braunschweig-based corporate fashion specialist tailored the dress to measure and now, three days before the big event, handed it over to Fenia Kalachani on board the new feel-good ship. “I am completely overwhelmed by this dress and the gesture of my colleagues in creating such a great gift for me personally,” says the environmental officer. “I am really looking forward to the christening and to celebrating this special moment together with the crew and the guests.”
The Mein Schiff 7 will be christened on June 22, 2024 in the Kiel Fjord as part of a christening voyage. The first voyage of the new fleet member starts on June 23 in Kiel and leads towards Nordland.
