November 22nd to December 2nd, the Mein Schiff 5 went to the dry dock in Dubai for a beauty treatment. Within twelve days, the feel-good ship was equipped with a final shore power connection during its stay in the shipyard and underwent numerous modernizations and redesigns. The result is impressive: popular and central locations on board, such as the Outer Alster, the gallery, the travel advisor and the Shore Ex area, shine in new splendor. Yesterday the Mein Schiff 5 welcomed guests on board again for the first time and set sail from Dubai via Oman, Sri Lanka and Malaysia on a 17-day voyage to Singapore.
Numerous trades and around 1,000 crew members have made Mein Schiff 5 fit and beautiful for the winter over the past few days. In addition to routine maintenance, more than 2,500 square meters of carpet were installed. And the 25-meter outdoor pool has finally received the Mein Schiff logo. After the Mein Schiff 4, the Mein Schiff 6 and the Mein Schiff 1, the Mein Schiff 5 is now the fourth ship in the Mein Schiff fleet to have a shore power connection on board. This means that TUI Cruises already ensures almost emission-free ship operations for two-thirds of the Mein Schiff fleet in ports where there is a shore-based shore power system. “In just a few weeks – specifically in January 2024 – Mein Schiff 2 will also be equipped with a shore power connection during its stay in the shipyard. “We want to further advance the development of external power supply in the ports and get closer to our climate protection goals little by little,” says Lucienne Damm, Head of Sustainability at TUI Cruises. In addition, the outer skin of the Mein Schiff 5 has received a new silicone coating. The result: The flow resistance while driving is reduced, meaning that fuel is saved significantly and emissions are subsequently reduced. An important step for TUI Cruises towards climate-neutral cruising and meeting sustainability goals. To ensure that these goals and the associated strategy are also visible to guests, a sustainability wall has now been installed on deck 4 near the TUI Bar.
Makeover for the Outer Alster – Bar & Grill on Deck 14
The Outer Alster Bar & Grill is a popular meeting place and is one of the favorite bars on board due to the spectacular view. To ensure that guests will continue to feel at home there in the future, numerous modernizations and improvements have been made. The Outer Alster Bar & Grill now has a casual beach look and feel. The new lounge furniture paired with fresh colors and materials as well as new plants invites you to linger and relax, even more than the previous interior. The result: pure relaxation on the feel-good ship.
New freshness for the gallery area on deck 4
In the newly renovated gallery area of Mein Schiff 5, art enthusiasts can admire not only photographic art, but also high-quality art prints, selected unique pieces and sculptures and purchase them to commemorate their time on board. Queens art galleries specialize in modern and contemporary works of art. They work closely with established and emerging artists – such as Bob Dylan and James Francis Gill, a co-founder of Pop Art. But on deck 4, not only the gallery has enjoyed a beauty treatment, but also, for example, the travel advisor’s workplace located in the middle of the gallery and the area of the shore excursion department.
